Mil-std-1553 - Cyber
We could have multiple days of discussion regarding cybersecurity on military vehicles. Cybersecurity has numerous components, data awareness being a crucial component. The Mil-Std-1553 network (data bus) operates at microsecond response times and typically with defined packet scheduling. No data flow occurs on the data bus unless the Bus Controller starts it, precisely determining the timing and sequence of valid data transmission within 6-16 microseconds. Therefore, data awareness is very well known.
Therefore, we can leverage this precision by developing an active Bus Monitoring system in tandem with the Bus Controller design, basing it on the established Bus Schedule. Such a design allows for the implementation of boundary and expected value checks. This configuration enables real-time monitoring of data against predetermined parameters. In the realm of cybersecurity, understanding your system and data thoroughly is paramount, echoing the ancient wisdom of "know thyself."
